Sweeping

For it is in giving that we receive.

St. Francis of Assisi

This will honestly be more of a personal musing of spirituality than any profound thoughts, I hope that you’ll enjoy it!

There’s an Italian game called Scopa, meaning “to sweep.” Many different regions have their own versions of the game, mostly seen in the varied artwork across different packs.

My friend Ivy introduced me to this game, so naturally, I had to get a few decks while I was here. I taught a few of my friends how to play with me, which led to a special experience for me today.

While wandering today, my friend Tyler texted me to tell me that he had gotten me another Scopa deck. The only reason he decided to get it was because he knew that I loved it. His kind gift made a big impact on my day; I smiled all day long and thought about how someone remembered me and wanted to make me happy.

This reminded me that when you give something to someone else, it makes them feel good and improves your relationship. That’s a pretty obvious statement, but many religions teach that the same goes for the divine: you get out what you put in.

What more could you give to improve your relationship with the divine?
